Advice for Little Girls on Equal Pay Day

Advice to little girls

You ought never to ‘sass’ old people unless they ‘sass’ you first.—Mark Twain, Advice to Little Girls (1865)

Its Equal Pay Day 2014, a day that looks forward rather than back. Twain advised good little girls that sassing is fine if you’re sassed first – it is time to sass.

More advice for little girls on Equal Pay Day:

Love yourself. Love the things that make you you. The world can be a tough place, and some of the billions of people out there will try to knock you down. Don’t join them. Do things that make you proud, then take pride in what you do. And in who you are. –Carol Weston, For Girls Only:  Wise Words, Good Advice

Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.—Maya Angelou

Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.  –Nora Ephron

I found out what the secret to life is: friends. Best friends.—Ninny Threadgoode, Fried Green Tomatoes

Remember, Wonder Woman doesn’t exist. She is fiction, and you are real. So don’t emulate Wonder Woman; think about what’s wonderful to you instead. Then boldly, audaciously, joyfully, leave the rest behind.” – Debora Spar, Wonder Women: Sex, Power, and the Quest for Perfection

And finally, from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who advised little girls she met on the 2012 campaign trail, “I’m running for the U.S. Senate because that’s what little girls do.”
